charlie rangel acts a fool

Congressman Charlie Rangel acts a fool in court for Gang Member

Something is real fishy when a congressman shows up at a gang members court hearing and then trys to sway the judge into releasing the gang member. Since when do Congressman get involved in gang member cases ? Sounds like the Congressman might be trying to repay a favor or maybe the Congressman is involved in some way with the gang member. I just don’t get it.

According to a report by Irene Cornell of WCBS radio in New York City:

Congressman Charlie Rangel basically embarrassed himself by showing up in court plead for the release of 17 year-old Afrika Owes, a one-time student at the Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts.

Rangel kept popping up, standing at the rail, trying to interrupt the judge. Finally, a court officer told him to sit down three times when he popped up again.

Judge Edward McLaughlin responded by saying, “I see someone standing who should not be standing, unless you have a bad back like I do.” Rangel sat down.

Why was Rangel so passionate about springing Ms. Owes? According to a separate WCBS report:

Owes, 17, had been a student at the prestigious Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. Prosecutors say she was also a member of a drug gang that terrorized 137th Street in Harlem.

Owes was one of fourteen suspected “137th Street Crew” gang members arrested last month. Prosecutors said the gang used shootings, beatings and robberies to protect their turf and gain street status on a stretch of West 137th Street. The gang allegedly openly dealt crack in apartment lobbies, near Harlem Hospital and near the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

The judge refused to release Owes on her own recognizance, saying tapes from Rikers Island have her involved in running guns and getting orders to “shoot for the head.”

According to the Deerfield Academy website, tuition for boarding students is $43,800. It also states that tuition “provides only part of the cost of educating a student at Deerfield. Presently the total cost amounts to over $77,000 per student annually.”

Even allowing for proceeds from the lucrative Harlem drug trade, it is doubtful Ms. Owes was paying her own way. She was given an opportunity, presumably because of her race, unavailable to middle-class students. If Rangel had not been shut up by the judge, I wonder if he would have claimed that Ms. Owes is a victim, just like himself.

They year 2010 is halfway over and is a mark of a whole new decade and as we turn from the 2000s and even further from the 1990s it is always a good idea to take a look back. Do you all remember the Rap City Freestyles that kicked off during BET afternoon series that everyone used to tune in to. It was great to catch your favorite rappers in the "booth", and catch them making raw music. In this featured Rap City booth session the Cash Money Miilionaires are highlghted and this was from the early in year 2000.
Lil Wayne, Baby, and Juvenile all go hard on the beat in this Rap City In The Basement Freestyle.

And since the Atlanta Brave are on a tear in the MLB right now, it only takes true Braves fans back to the 1990s. Back then when the city of Atlanta had Deion Sanders playing for both the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons. It was only right for "PrimeTime" to be signed to Nike, release dope sneakers, and make classic commercials with jewelry on. This commercial dates back 1993... God I miss the 90s. These Nike Air Diamond Turf Trainers are releasing this June so stay tuned...

And of course its only right to show where sneaker commercials are heading in 2010 and the years to come. So check out the latest commercial from Sneaker Me Stupid featuring the Air Jordan VI - InfraRed Pack.

Tyler Perry: I'm not suing The Boondocks!

Tuesday, 06 July 2010 16:34

Looks like there is not going to be a Tyler Perry – Aaron McGruder standoff in court. Darn. 'The Boondocks' episode that everyone is STILL talking about attempted to demolish Perry’s image by highlighting every rumor and negative nuance that surrounds his work in theatre and film. Entertainment Weekly gave a pretty good description of the episode in case you missed it:
The “Pause” episode’s Ma Duke character was clearly Madea, and it stands to reason that the Winston Jerome character was Tyler Perry (neither Perry’s office nor Turner Networks would comment on the episode). Jerome’s works were portrayed as poorly written and almost buffoonish and set him up as a closeted, cultish leader, who created his Ma Duke empire as a way to solicit sex with men. In the episode, Huey and Riley’s grandpa gets cast in Jerome’s new play, “Ma Duke Gets a Man.” First he’s asked to kiss Ma Duke on stage, then Jerome asks him straight out for sex.
